Local 6-Man/8-Man Playoff Rundown
On Saturday, November 4, both Cheyenne County schools came up with big victories in the state quarterfinal round. In Cheyenne Wells, the #4 seed Tigers jumped out to a 30-0 halftime lead and cruised to a 45-12 victory over the #5 seed North Park Panthers. The #7 seed Kit Carson Wildcats went north to play undefeated and #2 seed Prairie. And it was the Wildcats that came out on top. After building an 18-point lead, Kit Carson held off a late rally to defeat the Mustangs 32-26. Both teams will be on the road this upcoming weekend in the state semifinal round. Cheyenne Wells will travel to play #1 Stratton/Liberty and Kit Carson will play at Peetz.
Also on Saturday, three local 8-man teams took the field in the first round of state playoff action. Top seed Sedgwick County wasted no time jumping on the #16 seed McClave Cardinals, advancing with a 49-0 win. They will play at #9 seed Fowler, who forced four Springfield turnovers to help defeat the #8 seed Longhorns 36-14. The #5 seed Holly Wildcats trailed early, but would establish control to run past #12 seed Haxtun, 32-16. Holly will next play in the quarterfinal round at #13 seed Caliche, who upset #4 seed Hoehne 20-16 on Saturday.
